Buying a new computer is always a tough task, what sort of things do you want to do on there? Just use the internet? Play games? Create websites?

Because there are so many different types of systems to choose from, not everyone knows what specifications there computer needs to cope with the required tasks. Read on to find out “How to Choose the Right Computer for You”

  1. Firstly, decide what you are mainly going to be doing on your computer.  Playing games? browsing the web? using it as a media center?

    • For Gaming.  A decent gaming system preferably should have 2GB Ram, an AMD Athlon 4200 dual core processor and an XFX 8600 graphics card at the very least, most pre-built gaming computers specs are a lot higher than this so this kind of setup would be around the lowest you should have.

    • Browsing the web.  Any pre-built computer within a price range of £200 to £400 will be easily able to handle web browsing, using instant messengers, playing online flash games.  These systems usually have between 1GB and 2GB or RAM and a 2-3GHZ processor

    • A Media Center.  Using a computer as a media center is becoming increasingly popular nowadays and requires some pretty decent hardware.  If you want to go all out on a media center, things such as expensive Blu-Ray drives, graphics cards and lots of memory should be expected.

And depending on the TV or Monitor you’re hooking the system up to, you will need to make sure you buy a tv card (preferably dual tuners so you can record and watch at the same time) and make sure that the TV or graphics card has a hdmi slot if you have a HD TV.

  2. Next, you need to say what your budget is going to be.  E.g. Your maximum budget will be £500

  3. Do you want a desktop computer for home? or a laptop so you can take it to work, on holiday or even the pub?

  4. Are you going to be buying a pre-built computer or building it yourself?

  5. If you plan on building your own computer then I recommend using the following websites:  Either Ebuyer or Aria (these are the websites I mainly use and have never had a problem)

    • Remember that for a custom built computer you will need:  A Motherboard, Hard Drive, Power Supply, RAM(Memory), Graphics Card, DVD Drive, CPU Cooler, Processor and any other extra items you wish to put inside your system.

  6. Websites such as PC World, Dell, Ebuyer and Aria all have pre-built systems on their sites ranging from £200 to whatever price your willing to spend really.

Thanks for reading and I hope this article has been useful, informative and some help towards choosing your new computer.
